Holy shit, teach me to post about politics. Time for something less charged.

I always wondered where it was – the rest of the internet. I frequent sites like Reddit, Slashdot, GamesRadar, Ain’t it Cool News, Wikipedia, and so on – you know the type of site I visit. I’m immersed in these communities – I know the sorts of people to expect, I have similar tastes, I have similar experiences, and so on. But what’s everyone else up to?

For what is likely the majority (I don’t have any statistics, but feel free to point me to some), the internet is a tool. It is banking, driving directions, movie times, research, passive consumption of news. These people don’t write comments or make a lot of accounts – they may use Facebook or share photos, but fundamentally, they aren’t online to be entertained or to interact with the general public. Push them aside, they aren’t the types I’m looking for. Others stick to small, tight-knit communities, so it’s understandable that I don’t see much of them. But what of everyone else – the people who do use the internet like I do, but who I never pay attention to?

I was already seeing them everywhere, I just wasn’t noticing them.

    There is so much stupidity on the internet it’s just easier to tune it all out than to try to comprehend it all and go mad. It all just sort of runs together, unless you’re trying to find something that interests you. The sheer volume of content denies my completist personality, and makes it hard to just focus on one site or community, but I guess it benefits in the end rather than spreading your resources thin. And as for that video…he’s a genius.
